Abstract

The utility of low work function emitter materials for advanced thermionic energy converters is discussed. Recent experimental results obtained for the (310) face of LaB 6, a prototype advanced emitter surface, are presented and discussed. The availability of this and other thermally stable, low work function materials offers considerable promise for the future of advanced thermionic energy conversion.
