Abstract

The low-temperature property of ytterbium-doped fiber lasers is quite important in various applications. A fiber laser operating at 1018 nm is fabricated and its gain fiber is cooled to −30℃ by the temperature control system enabled on the thermoelectric coolers. The cooling effect of the system is better than that of the water-cooling system. The temperature of fiber core is obtained by an in-situ temperature measurement system based on the optical frequency domain reflectometry. Experimental results show that the output power decreases about 5.7 % while the temperature is adjusted from 20℃ to −30℃. Meanwhile, the central wavelength and the linewidth change little during the temperature tunning.
