Low temperature measurements of incoherent inelastic and quasielastic neutron scattering in [Ni(NH3)6] (NO3)2, with a simultaneous control of phase

Abstract

Abstract Incoherent inelastic and quasielastic neutron scattering experiments showed that NH3 groups in an [Ni(NH3)6] (NO3)2 crystal are not equivalent in the temperature range 5–86 K. Two out of the six NH3 groups reorient fast, and show residence times of the order of ps. An indication of a phase III → phase IV transition at about 80 K was obtained.
