Abstract

The phenomenon of low temperature (up to room temperature) ignition of acetaldehydeoxygen mixtures, initiated by the products of heterogeneous radical decomposition of peroxide compounds, adsorbed at low temperature on a surface of the reaction vessel, has been discovered and studied. It has been shown that the minimum ignition temperature strongly depends on the character of the reaction vessel surface, as well as the nature and the concentration of the peroxide (peracetic acid, t-butyl hydroperoxide, and di-t-butyl peroxide). It has been discovered, that a blue-colored flame propagates along the cold reaction vessel as a result of the adsorption of the peroxy compounds on the wall and the subsequent rapid heating. The speed of the propagation of the flame depends on the peroxy compound adsorbed.
