Abstract

We report the high resolution low temperature X-ray diffraction investigation on the structural phase transition (SPT) from a low temperature orthorhombic (LTO) to a low temperature tetragonal (LTT) phase for an optimally-doped La 2− x Sr x CuO 4 ( x = 0.15) high quality single crystal. Results show a frustrated SPT and the coexistence of both LTO and LTT phases at all temperatures below about 145 K with the LTO phase being predominant down to at least 5 K.
