Abstract
The effect of mineral fibre addition on the bending creep of asphalt mixtures for road pavement construction was systematically analysed at low temperatures. Bending creep tests were conducted on three AC-16C asphalt mixtures with and without the addition of two types of mineral fibres at temperatures of −10°C, 5°C and 20°C. The results showed that adding mineral fibres effectively improved the bending creep speed of asphalt mixtures and further enhanced the ability of the mixture to resist cracking at low temperatures. Numerical simulations of creep at low temperatures were carried out using finite-element software and were found to provide a good fit with the test results. The simulations also indicated that the Burgers model could be used accurately to predict the creep of fibre–asphalt mixtures at low temperatures.
