Abstract

1. We determined the optimal composition of the atmosphere for carbonitriding of malleable iron and gray cast iron to obtain the required thickness of the e and γ zones and surface hardness of the coating. 2. A relationship was found between the depth of the individual zones and the carbonitriding temperature and time. 3. Gray cast iron carbonitrided at 700° has a high wear resistance under conditions of friction without lubrication under high loads.
