Abstract

A novel low RF-complexity multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) transmission scheme, termed analog beamforming aided receive spatial modulation (AB-RSM), is proposed for millimeter-wave (mmWave) communications. We investigate the transmitter design employing the RSM concept and analog beamforming technique in mmWave MIMO systems. To introduce beamforming gain while maintaining the advantages of RSM, we employ the phase shifters at the transmitter to make all the transmit antennas aim at the activated receive antenna. Our simulation results show that the proposed AB-RSM scheme is capable of achieving reduced computational complexity as well as hardware cost compared to the conventional RSM, especially for large-scale scenarios.
