Abstract
Dependence of a spark chamber detection efficiency on a gas pressure was investigated at pressures lower than 1 atm. Results are explained by considering not all of seed electrons, but an effective part of them is accelerated in a gap length of the spark chamber. Comparason of efficiency curves for Ar and He gases indicates that a low pressure He spark chamber can be made useful as ionization discriminator of incident particles.
