Abstract
FIR filter is very attractive in biomedical signal processing due to its linear phase property. However, the narrow transition bandwidth requirement in many wearable biomedical devices leads very long filter length, which drastically increases the hardware cost and power. This paper introduces the basic idea of the frequency-response masking (FRM) technique and associated design procedure for the design of low power narrow bandwidth FIR filters. Two examples of the FRM filter for ECG signal processing and hearing aid are presented to illustrate the efficiency of FRM technique.
