Abstract

The present combustor addresses NOx reduction for mobile power application which can be easily carried to different locations. The Annular type combustor is developed for 20KW thermal capacity gas turbine engine, using hydrogen as fuel. For low NOx emission, the conventional annular liner is redesigned to incorporate Rich Burn, Quick Mix, and Lean Burn Combustor (RQL). The combustor is tested in high pressure test rig at design and off-design conditions. The performance parameters under consideration are temperature profiles, NOx emissions, pressure drop and pattern factor. These parameters are studied with respect to rich zone and lean zone equivalence ratio. The rich zone equivalence ratio is varied from 1.1 to 1.81, while the lean zone equivalence ratio is varied from 0.32 to 0.59. The experimental results suggest that rich zone equivalence is the main factor in controlling NOx emissions, while pattern factor (radial and circumferential) is dependent on lean zone equivalence ratio.
