Abstract

We describe two VLSI CMOS ICs for 2-D X-ray digital imaging systems with single photon counting capability: a low noise front-end analog amplifier and an 80 MHz synchronous digital encoder. Our VLSI system will be optimized to perform X–Y coincidences with double-sided microstrip digital detector. The main application we are investigating is stereotaxic mammography, because of low X-ray energy used and the small area involved.
