Abstract

Low-level particle sampling is put into the context of the contamination generation, dispersion and removal process. The average residence time is an important parameter and is dependent on the air exchange rate and quality of cleaning. Personal sampling should be preferred, because a person's own activity resuspends dust. Surface sampling methods are reviewed, and the importance of including surface contamination in an indoor environment quality assessment is discussed. A comprehensive approach to evaluating the quality of cleaning is reviewed.
