Abstract

The effect of glass additives on the densification and microwave dielectric properties of (Zr 0.8, Sn 0.2)TiO 4 (ZST) ceramics were investigated. Three glasses including ZnO–B 2O 3–SiO 2–Li 2O–CuO (ZBSLC), BaO–B 2O 3–SiO 2–Li 2O–CuO (BBSLC) and BaO–SiO 2–TiO 2–CuO (BSTC) were selected for this study. Host material (Zr 0.8, Sn 0.2)TiO 4 calcined at 1150 °C for 6 h was selected to be sintered with glasses in the temperature range of 950–1150 °C. For (Zr 0.8, Sn 0.2)TiO 4 with 10 wt.% glass BBSLC sintered at 1050 °C, the ɛ r of 30, Q × f value of 30300 and τ f of −4 ppm/°C were obtained. Taking advantage of further milling to reduce the particle size, the ZST ceramics can be sintered at 1000 °C with ɛ r = 26.8 and Q × f = 21900.
