Abstract

The operation of an external cavity, CO 2 pumped InSb spin-flip Raman laser using an electromagnet is reported. Spin-flip operation has been achieved at fields down to 0.5 kG. Quantum oscillations have been observed in the spin-flip output power. At low fields the spin-flip output power shows a 100% modulation of period 0.02 cm -1, identical to the external cavity mode spacing, as the field is swept. The significance of these results to the future development of the spin-flip Raman laser as a tunable spectroscopic source is indicated.
