Abstract

To study the expression and prognostic significance of CD80 in patients with gastric adenocarcinoma. Materials& methods: Real-time quantitative PCR, western blot and immunohistochemistry were performed to detect the expression of CD80 in gastric cancer tissues and matched adjacent normal tissues. Double immunohistochemical staining was performed to preliminary examine the relationship between CD80+ cells and CD8+ cytotoxic T lymphocytes. The expression of CD80 was downregulated in tumor tissues compared with normal tissues (p =0.002). Immunohistochemistry analysis showed that 49 (39.8%) of 123 patients with gastric cancer demonstrated reduced CD80 expression, which was correlated with the tumor differentiation grade. Our data suggest that reduced CD80 expression independently predicts a poor prognosis in patients with gastric adenocarcinoma.
