Abstract

Energy calibration sources were made which emit K and L X-rays from electron capture nuclides, such as 55Fe, and characteristic X-rays from targets. Two, three or even four characteristic X-rays can be emitted from one source in the energy range 573 eV to 5.895 keV. Because of the small values of thickness (0.3 mm) and diameter (8 mm), they can be put inside 2 π or 4 π counters. They are suitable for detectors which have higher detection efficiency to L X-rays than K X-rays such as methane gas flow proportional counters. Energy and intensity of characteristic X-rays from the calibration source are discussed.
