Abstract
Some basic characteristics of the hadronic component of extensive air showers are calculated down to threshold energies approximately 100 MeV-energy spectra, composition and lateral distributions. For this purpose the simulation program GEANT-3.13/GHEISHA-8 is used. The energy range of GHEISHA is extended from 1 TeV to 1000 TeV to make it suitable for cosmic ray studies. The results can be used in an experimental study of the low energy hadrons in EAS and the planning of gamma -astrophysical experiments with use of a neutron monitor as a hadron detector and/or rejector of the nuclear showers.
