Abstract
The experimental results obtained so far on the strength anomaly in β-brass have been reviewed. It has been shown that 〈111〉 superlattice dislocations are climb dissociated rather than glide dissociated and take a low energy configuration above room temperature. A mechanism in which climb dissociation plays an important role has been proposed for the strength anomaly.
