Abstract

There is strong evidence for an association between blood pressure and incident cardiovascular complications, and interventional studies have shown antihypertensive treatment to reduce cardiovascular events and all-cause mortality.1–3 However, many patients treated for hypertension do not reach current recommended target blood pressure values, with several possible explanations. Care providers might think side-effects with treatment are a problem, or consider the evidence for current recommended target values insufficient.
