Abstract

ABSTRACT This paper investigates the fatigue behavior of notched 2024-T3 aluminum alloy under axial cyclic loading considering the combination of initiation and propagation phases. Several models based on the critical plane concept are used to predict the fatigue life in the initiation phase. A new method is presented to predict the initial crack length of the hole-type notch and edge-cut type notch specimens. Comparison of the experimental and estimated fatigue lives revealed that there is an acceptable agreement between these two results in the low-cycle fatigue life ranges.
