Abstract

Abstract A dramatic reduction in the cost of hardware for receiving and storing full resolution NOAA satelitte AVHRR images (1.1 km spatial resolution to 10 bits in 5 spectral bands) makes direct reception of the data from the satellite a viable option for almost every professional user. The implications are also important for planning use and distribution of data from future satellite sensors.
