Abstract
A novel low-cost photoreceiver that combines an erbium-doped waveguide amplifier (EDWA) and a packaged short planar multimode waveguide PIN photodiode has demonstrated −21.2 dBm sensitivity at BER 10−10 and PRBS of 215−1 for 40 Gbit/s operations.
