Abstract

A two-stage process was used to prepare thin films of chalcopyrites such as CuInSe 2 and CuIn 1− x Ga x Se 2. This process involves reacting the previously electrodeposited stacked metal layers with a chalcogenide atmosphere to obtain single-phase chalcopyrite material. Efficient solar cells of the type CuInSe 2/CdS were fabricated on films obtained by this technique. Results reported in this paper demonstrate the promise of the two-stage process for low cost manufacturing of thin film solar cells.
