Abstract

A fibre-optic concept different from the standard concept is presented. The combination of a 3 × 3 coupler, unpolarised light and a contrast-insensitive signal recovery scheme (CIS) offers the potential for low-cost fibre-optic gyroscopes with low to medium performance. First measurements show a bias uncertainty <8°/h and a scale factor accuracy <0.1%.
