Abstract

A low cost and automatic calibration method for micro-electro mechanical systems (MEMS) gyroscope is presented in this paper, which requires no precise alignment instrument. The deterministic gyroscope errors are modeled as a nonlinear equation with 9 unknown parameters (3 biases, 3 scale factors and 3 non-orthogonally angles). And then estimating the unknowns with a nonlinear least squares adjustment method by using a redundant number of rotations. A single-axis turntable is used to provide a strong reference rotation rate for the estimation of these parameters. The performance of this calibration method is tested by using a particular MEMS gyroscope, STIM202.
