Abstract

Endothelin-1 (ET-1) represents one of the most potent constrictors of guinea pig bronchial smooth muscle. In our study, various doses of aerosolized ET-1 increased airway resistance. But a very low concentration of ET-1 (10 −12M) could not change airway resistance. We examined low doses of ET-1 enhanced the sensitivity of bronchial contractions to histamine. ET-1 may play one of the most important roles in contributing directly or indirectly to the pathogenesis of bronchial asthma.
