Abstract
A new method for measuring low birefringence in optical fibres is described. It is based on a fibre twist in a fibre optical loop mirror. It allows birefringence measurement within the range 10–6 – 0.5 × 10–8. Neither specific input polarisation nor previous principal fibre axes orientation adjustment are required.
