The article focuses on the market for birds and wildlife in Indonesia, Jakarta. It mentions that the demand for birds in Indonesia’s pet marketplace, decreased the number of species in the wild. It states that the average price for a white-rumped shama, species in Indonesian songbird competitions, rose by 1,500 percent. It mentions that buyers are paying high prices for vulnerable island populations of the birds.
