Abstract

Women’s lives and rights in Iran have received considerable attention since 1979. The dramatic changes that the Islamic republic introduced only a few years after its ascent to power prompted many scholars and students of Iran to delve into a thorough examination of women’s position during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. In addition to exploring women’s roles in Iran’s history, the new scholarship examined many other aspects related to women’s lives. The Islamic republic’s stance on women’s position and rights, family planning in preand post-revolutionar y Iran, and the reemergence of centuriesold institutions such as temporary marriage have been among topics of inquiry. However, while public affairs related to women’s positions were at the forefront of most investigations , the private aspects of women’s lives and family dynamics received limited attention.
