Abstract

Louis Round Wilson Prize for 2020 Reid Barbour, Editor THE Editorial Board of Studies in Philology voted at its annual meeting in May 2008 to establish an annual prize of $1000 for the best article published in the journal during the previous year. The prize was named in honor of Louis Round Wilson, whose monograph Chaucer's Relative Constructions appeared as the first issue of Studies in Philology in 1906. Wilson was instrumental in founding and establishing SP, and in helping to ensure that it would have a long and vital future. The award-winning article for 2020 has the distinction of being a twoparter. In "The Middle English Athelston and 1381, parts 1 and 2," Dominique Battles explores the fourteenth-century "politics of Anglo-Saxon identity" and "the road to rebellion." Focusing on the poem's treatment of kingship, oath-taking, and place, among other matters, the articles contribute to our understanding of the Peasants' Revolt of 1381, with its powerful and complex impact on the most fundamental questions of medieval English society, law, and heritage. We are honored to have published Professor Battles's important studies. [End Page i] ________ 2020 Dominique Battles 2019 Curry Kennedy 2018 Theresa M.
