Abstract

A review of Realizing Peace: A Constructive Conflict Approach by Louis Kriesberg is presented. Kriesberg provides a detailed and very enlightening history of U.S. involvement in foreign conflicts since the end of World War II. His book sets upon the auspicious task of changing the nature of international conflict, arguing that U.S. intervention should be implemented in a more constructive manner to produce more favorable outcomes in terms of mitigating conflict and promoting actual peace. The lessons of this book are extensive, but one of the key arguments Kriesberg presents is that more open dialogue, dialogue that includes the representatives of all the participants of conflicts, is necessary to provide a more in-depth, violence-reducing context for discussion.
