I got as far as the Preface in this marvelous book when I noticed a not-so-obvious truth. The authors point out that many researchers initiated studies on the nine-banded armadillo only to become discouraged because of difficulty in acquiring data, subsequently changing to another mammal (as I did early in my graduate work). This intriguing animal is so difficult to study that the authors should be applauded for their persistence over 20 years.
