Abstract

The loudness of double impulsive sounds is examined from the viewpoint of temporal masking in that why the loudness of double impulsive sound becomes louder with the shorter duration compared with longer duration. The stimuli are set of various rise/fall times and various durations with the energy inside the stimuli remained unchanged. And to compare the loudness, it is least with the equal rise/fall times that with the short rise and long fall time and long rise time and short fall time. This is also true for single impulsive sounds. And together with this, the loudness is louder with the duration of the stimuli in that the louder the loudness the shorter the stimuli. The results of temporal masking curves are shown for explaining the cause of this loudness variations why it becomes louder with the shorter durations.
