Abstract

This paper examines the validity of Lotka's law to authorship distribution on the subject Area “LAW”. In the process, we chose to consider the articles published under Columbia Law Review (CLR) since from its inception i.e. during 1901–2012 for the study. Lotka's law constituting the most significant bibliometric law is applied and tested using various methods like Sen's Method, Pao's Method, and Maximum Likelihood Method and finally verified through Kolmogorov-Smirnov Test. The Hypotheses is thus tested with these measures for its validity and it is found that the values of exponent n and constant c obtained through Pao's Method is par with the observed values and hence, the Pao's method is suitable to adopt, to test, the validity of Lotka's Law for the Legal Research Area with Scholarly content published in the Columbia Law Review.
