Abstract
A 2D and 3D non-linear and anisotropic FEM model at various frequencies and induction levels is used for calculating the iron losses in axial flux permanent magnet synchronous machines due to transverse magnetic flux (fringing flux). The models are experimentally verified in the linear case with a rigid set-up without moving parts, which is a part of an axial flux permanent magnet synchronous motor with adjustable air gap. Classical, hysteresis and excess losses are calculated using a loss model fitted on the basis of Epstein frame measurements.
