Abstract

AbstractLoss‐on‐ignition at 430C of calcareous and noncalcareous soils has been compared with organic matter contents estimated by a wet oxidation method. The presence of CaCO3 did not affect the magnitude of the ignition‐loss and the gravimetric method provides both a reliable and simple estimation of soil organic matter.
