Abstract
An in-depth understanding of military history includes a strategic perspective. In practice, this covers a broad range of factors that have subsequent actions in the historical evolution, as well as in the strategic thinking. Since this point of view, it is of importance to bring to the table of discussion the strategic models. Therefore, this paper will address the relationship among five strategic models developed by Andre Beaufre: direct threatening, indirect pressure, successive actions, low-intensity conflict, and violent conflict. In this spectrum, it will be studied the social phenomenon of “contemporary wars”, in a particular period of time from French Revolution to Vietnam War.
