Abstract

ICT have stimulate governments to develop new digital strategies such as geoportals, a response to citizens' problems using new technologies like Internet. This article proposes to account for the implementation of the geoportal SIGUE VALLARTA, created by the Municipal Economic Development Office. This experience highlights that the adoption of geoportals by local governments allow to innovate on the visualization of geographic information useful to increase competitiveness, improve the quality of public services and minimize costs. However, its use seems to be restricted by the digital divide caused by lack of infrastructure, connectivity and specialized human resources.
