Abstract

This paper deals with the historical problem of C. Valerius Flaccus's inauguration as flamen Dialis in 209 B. C. and his subsequent demand for the right to be admitted into the Senate (Liv., XXVII, 8, 4-10). The quarrel which decided in favour of the flamen and the question regarding the foundations and extent of the senatorial rights linked to flamonium diale will be analyzed in detail.
