Abstract
Lormetazepam (Noctamid - Schering) is a new benzodiazepine marketed as a hypnotic. It differs from temazepam only in the addition of a chlorine atom. The manufacturer states that it is better than many other benzodiazepines because of its relatively short duration of action and its lack of active metabolites, so that ‘patients wake up feeling refreshed after a good night’s sleep without any hangover effects’.
