Abstract
Lorenz Hofbauer grew up on a farm in southern Germany. “It was nothing like urban life; people get up early and there is a lot of hard physical labour, particularly around the harvest”, explained Hofbauer, who is now Professor of Medicine, Endocrinology, and Geriatric Medicine at Universitätsklinikum Carl Gustav Carus, Technische Universität Dresden (Dresden, Germany).
