Abstract

1-Butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate (BMITF) was used as a ionic liquid hardener of the Epidian 6 dian epoxy resin. Effect of BMITF (0.5-5 phr) and hardening time at 190 °C on crosslinking of the resin was determined on the basis of glass transition temperature (T g ) values. Investigations were performed using DSC, FT-IR, DMTA and rheometry. BMITF shows features of a latent hardener and could find application e.g. in adhesive, cast and coating compositions.
