Abstract

Few contemporary studies have investigated the long-term failure rate of laparoscopic tubal sterilization. This study was conducted to determine the current long-term failure rate of laparoscopic tubal sterilization with bipolar coagulation among an urban teaching clinic population. These results were compared to earlier findings from the U.S. Collaborative Review of Sterilization (CREST) which investigated the failure rate of sterilizations performed from 1978 - 1986, 5-16 years prior to this study’s procedures.
