Abstract

Abstract The Chikungunya (CHIKV) is associated with various neurological complications including meningoencephalitis, meningoencephalo-myeloradiculitis, myeloradiculitis, myelitis, myeloneuropathy, Guillian –Barre syndrome, external ophthalmoplegia, facial palsy, sensorineural deafness and optic neuritis but longitudinally extensive transverse myelitis (LETM) has not been reported earlier. Hence we are describing a 40 years old male who presented with 6 days history of fever, multiple joint pain followed by sensorimotor paraparesis with urinary retention. He also had past history of stroke and scar epilepsy. MRI spine revealed intramedullary lesion extending from D2 to D9 vertebral level. Chikungunya IgM serology was positive by ELISA. Patient was treated with IV methyl prednisolone and discharged in improving condition. The clinicians should be aware of such uncommon complication like LETM of CHIKV.
