Abstract

First three non-vanishing sum rules for the bulk and longitudinal stress auto-correlationfunctions have been evaluated for liquid Rb at six thermodynamic states along theliquid–vapour coexistence curve. The Mori memory function formalism and thefrequency sum rules have been used to calculate bulk and longitudinal viscosities. Theresults thus obtained for the ratio of bulk viscosity to shear viscosity have beencompared with experimental and other theoretical predictions wherever available. Thevalues of the bulk viscosity have been found to be more than the correspondingvalues of the shear viscosity for all six thermodynamic states investigated here.
