Abstract

METHODS: A population-based retrospective cohort analysis of wait times for colorectal cancer patients in the Province of Manitoba, Canada, between 2004 and 2006 was undertaken. Administrative records were utilized to estimate total wait time (TWT), defined as the sum of the time from index contact with the healthcare system to diagnosis of CRC (diagnostic wait time) and the time from diagnosis to definitive cancer surgery (treatment wait time). Multivariate Cox regression analysis of 5-year overall survival was performed to control for potential confounding variables including, age, gender, stage, emergency/urgent presentation, adjuvant treatments, and TWT.
