Abstract

To detect small foreign-object debris (FOD) on airport runways, an FOD detection system based on optically connected 96-GHz distributed-type millimeter-wave radar has been developed. In this paper, long-distance coherent signal transmission and reception by this Radio-over-Fiber (RoF)-based radar system are discussed. Firstly, a coherent signal network based on optical wavelength-division multiplexers is proposed. The radar transmission and receiving signals are transferred by millimeter-wave RoF and 10 gigabit Ethernet, respectively. The signal integration performances are then evaluated using the radar test-bed. The results show a noise floor reduction effect approaching the theoretical value.
