Abstract

Transmitting high amounts of electrical power with an underground transmission installation requires high performance systems with low losses due to thermal effects. Gas insulated transmission lines (GIL) are an excellent means of transmitting power in such a way. An analysis using the FEM-method (ANSYS) was carried out to study the unsteady state behaviour of buried GIL. In a long duration test the GIL the calculated results were compared to the results of the measurement to check the accuracy of the numerical model so that it could be used for the design and improvement of future applications.
