The importance of studies being carried out over long periods of time so that there are quantitative data examining links between childhood and adult health outcomes is identified by this particular study. It also highlights the importance of child health nurses making themselves familiar with these types of studies because results carried out long term increase awareness that what happens early in a child’s life can make a significant difference to their physical health in middle age. This study is particularly relevant because it provides evidence that if a child has good cognitive ability at 11 years of age. Health problems later in life are more likely to be prevented.
